William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. A member of the Republican Party, he was born on January 29, 1843, was elected President in 1896 and served from March 14, 1897 until he was assassinated by the anarchist Leon Czolgosz and died on September 14, 1901, near the beginning of his second term.
