When I was growing up at the edge of Fort Caroline National Monument in Jacksonville, Florida my mother kept a bird feed going in our back yard. We watched the antics of jays, cardinals, and many other birds.

For years I lived on 2 acres of property on the first ridge from the ocean near Point Arena, in Mendocino County, California. I tried to make the land hospitable to birds and other wildlife. We saw some regular birds that live on or near our property and an assortment of migrating birds as well. But now I live in Seattle, fortunately where there are some trees that birds visit.

I hope to gradually catalog the birds that visit us in these pages.
